Bec Gilby
Hello,
I’m Rebecca Gilby. I’ve been a yoga teacher since 2003 when I first completed a yoga teacher training at the Scarborough Yoga Centre, Western Australia. This was with Morrison McQueen, a fellow Ashtangi. Robert Lucas was my teacher of the Ashtanga method from 2003-2008. Robert is on of the few masters that was fortunate to study one on one with Pattabhi Jois and learn the ashtanga method.
I moved to the east coast and found Dena Kingsberg in Byron bay spending time under guidance as often as possible. Currently I continue to study the Ashtanga method with the support of Mark Togni at the Gold Coast Yoga Centre.
Growing up I was totally enamoured by Science. I love physics, biology, chemistry and mathematics. My father a mathematician and engineer had a huge influence on my interest in the way the laws of physics and mathematics are so deeply connected to our world, including our bodies, biochemistry and psychology. My first degree I studied molecular biology and worked in the biotech industry with fin fish, mollusks and zooplankton. As well as a time with big pharma.
The practice of asana and the study of yoga helped to clarify my priorities in life. This led to a romance then deeply connected relationship with my husband Carl. We have two beautiful children. At the time of my pregnancies and birth I was uncomfortable with my experience of healthcare and it took me years to unpick my responsibility and the health systems role in my experience.
In 2017 I completed my second degree and became a registered midwife. I have a burning need for woman to understand the gravity of their abilities. Yoga is a vehicle that can reveal to a woman that she is more than capable of this huge undertaking of having a family in what ever form that takes and how we can break old cycles, destructive patterns and enhance self expression.
I love my jobs and I can’t do it alone
